The official OBS Studio website describes OBS as free, open-source software for video recording and live streaming, with scenes, multiple sources, transitions, an audio mixer, filters and plugin/script support. Those production capabilities are intentionally outside LivemeRec's scope.
How LivemeRec records a public Liveme stream
LivemeRec begins with a stable public creator identity. You send /rec CREATOR_ID for a live happening now or /watch CREATOR_ID for future monitoring. The service resolves the current public live, validates a compatible HLS or FLV source and captures away from your device.
Closed video segments move through a shared media pipeline. When capture ends, the pipeline validates the media, prepares a player cover and timestamped contact sheet, posts the album to the service's private archive, then lets the main bot deliver the same archived media to eligible users. The result appears in Telegram rather than on the filesystem of the device that issued the command.

How an OBS workflow differs
OBS runs locally. You install it, add one or more sources, select recording settings and keep the computer running for the duration. Sources can include windows, displays, browser views, cameras, capture cards, images and audio devices. You decide what appears in the scene and where the resulting file is stored.
That flexibility is the main reason to choose OBS. It is also the main operational responsibility. You must configure the correct source, monitor audio, avoid notification or window overlays when relevant, provide enough local storage and prevent sleep, restart or network interruption.
OBS does not inherently know which Liveme creator you mean or when that creator will next broadcast. Any Liveme-specific discovery or automation must come from the source you choose, your own scripts or another integration. LivemeRec makes identity and monitoring the product boundary instead.
Setup time and learning curve
LivemeRec setup is intentionally small: open the Telegram bot, provide a stable Liveme ID and choose manual recording or watchlist monitoring. There are no local codecs, capture scenes or output folders to configure.
OBS setup can be quick for a basic window capture, but a reliable production setup deserves testing. You may need to select canvas resolution, frame rate, output format, encoder, audio devices and storage path. A scene with browser capture, webcam, microphone and branded overlays requires more preparation but gives far more creative control.
If you only need the published public Liveme media preserved, the extra production layer may not add value. If you need your own commentary, layout or camera in the result, LivemeRec is not intended to replace OBS.
Automatic monitoring when you are away
This is the largest practical difference. LivemeRec's watchlist follows the creator identity on remote infrastructure. Your personal computer and phone can be turned off. Monitoring cycles deduplicate the current live so the same broadcast is not scheduled repeatedly.
An OBS workstation normally records after you start it or after local automation triggers it. That computer must remain powered, connected and correctly configured. Operating-system updates, sleep, storage exhaustion or an application crash can prevent recording.

Source capture versus screen or window capture
LivemeRec uses the compatible public media source made available for the current Liveme broadcast. It does not record pixels from your phone display. This avoids chat controls, notification overlays and display scaling, and it preserves the source orientation.
OBS can capture a window or browser rendering, but it can also ingest configured media sources depending on your workflow and available integrations. The result is defined by the source you choose. A display capture preserves exactly what appeared on the screen, including unwanted interface elements. A direct media source can be cleaner but may require more technical setup and can expire.

Scene design, overlays and audio
OBS wins decisively when the recording is also a production. It can combine sources, position them on a canvas, switch scenes, apply transitions and process audio. You can add your own visual identity, lower thirds, microphone commentary or a separate soundtrack, subject to rights and platform rules.
LivemeRec preserves the eligible public stream and adds branding only to presentation assets such as the player cover and contact sheet. It does not build a custom program feed and does not burn a permanent logo across every video frame. This narrower design minimizes quality loss and obstruction.
Choose OBS when creative composition is a requirement. Choose LivemeRec when the goal is unattended preservation and delivery rather than live production.
Local control and file ownership
OBS writes to your chosen local path. You control naming, format, backup and editing. You can isolate the machine from third-party delivery services and retain only the files you want. This is valuable for sensitive authorized work or an established editing workflow.
LivemeRec uses remote processing and Telegram delivery. You gain device independence and automatic delivery but accept that the media passes through service infrastructure and Telegram. Public website pages expose recording metadata rather than permanent public MP4 links.

Reliability during a long broadcast
OBS reliability depends on your machine, configured source and local environment. A well-maintained desktop with sufficient storage and stable networking can record for a long time. A laptop that sleeps or runs out of disk cannot.
LivemeRec removes the personal computer from that chain and captures small completed pieces remotely. It can refresh an expired public Liveme source while ensuring the refreshed source belongs to the same live identity. A creator restart must not be appended to the earlier job.
Remote infrastructure introduces different dependencies: Liveme's public endpoints, recorder capacity, shared processing, archive access and Telegram transport. A serious service must monitor those dependencies and fail visibly. No architecture makes a live source immune to network loss.
For long recordings, also consider entitlement duration and file size. LivemeRec may split a completed result into ordered Telegram parts. Delivery and sharing
OBS produces a local file. You decide whether to upload it to Telegram, cloud storage or an editor. That preserves control but adds a manual upload step, which can take time for long recordings.
LivemeRec's output workflow ends in Telegram. The service delivers video or ordered parts together with a contact sheet in one album. The album makes a long recording easy to inspect and forward while keeping context together.
Telegram is not an editing system or permanent backup strategy. Download important authorized media to controlled storage after delivery. If you need an immediate local editing timeline, OBS has the shorter path.
Costs and resource use
OBS is free and open source, but the workstation, electricity, storage and bandwidth are yours. Those costs may be negligible if you already run a suitable computer, or substantial if it must stay online continuously.
LivemeRec centralizes remote capture and applies plan limits to watchlist slots, concurrent jobs, duration and delivery features. The current pricing page is the source of truth. Do not treat capacity as unlimited simply because the command is simple.
Compare total workflow cost, not only subscription price. If you lose an important broadcast because a laptop slept, the cheap workflow did not solve the job. If you pay for automation but record only one short clip a year, local capture may be more sensible.
Privacy, terms and responsible use
Both tools can be used responsibly or irresponsibly. Technical access to a public stream does not grant the right to republish it. Consider consent, copyright, publicity and privacy rights, Liveme's current Terms of Service and applicable law.
LivemeRec refuses private and unsupported sources. OBS gives the operator broad control over configured sources, so the operator bears more direct responsibility for authorization. In either workflow, secure the completed file and honor legitimate creator requests.

When LivemeRec is the better fit
Choose LivemeRec when most of these are true:
- the Liveme broadcast is publicly accessible;
- the creator may start while you are away;
- you want to monitor a stable UID rather than a window;
- your phone or computer should not remain awake;
- Telegram is your preferred delivery library;
- you do not need custom scenes or commentary;
- you want the video and contact sheet delivered together.
When OBS is the better fit
Choose OBS when most of these are true:
- you need multiple visual or audio sources;
- you want custom scenes, filters and transitions;
- local-only storage is important;
- you are present to operate or supervise the recording;
- you have a stable workstation and enough disk space;
- the output will immediately enter a local editing workflow;
- you need full control over encoder and recording format.
Can you use both?
Yes. For authorized work, LivemeRec can provide an unattended source-preserving fallback while OBS creates a produced local version. Keep the outputs clearly labeled. Do not assume the files will have identical duration or composition: they were created through different sources and start conditions.
A hybrid workflow is useful only if the additional copy has a purpose. More duplicates also mean more storage, privacy and deletion responsibilities.
Final decision
Use LivemeRec when identity-aware monitoring and remote Telegram delivery matter more than production control. Use OBS when a local workstation, creative composition and direct file access matter more than unattended automation.
